A structural approach to integrate infrastructures into a landscape or townscape: Infrastructures place tough demands on the design of Kunstbauten like bridges, tunnels, and retaining walls.
I enjoy working in the engineering tradition that derives the designs of such structures from the discipline’s inherent conditions (like structural theory, possible construction processes, and the efficient use of materials and money). It’s well known that this sometimes tightly constrained way of working hasn’t always led to successful solutions in the past. I’m interested in cautiously opening up engineering work to interdisciplinarity, where the classic qualities of engineering can not only be preserved but even enhanced.
Jürg Conzett, a citizen of Schiers (Switzerland), born in 1956, studied civil engineering at EPF Lausanne and ETH Zürich. After receiving his diploma in 1980 he worked for several years in the office of architect Peter Zumthor. In 1988, he started his own office as a structural engineer. Today, the firm Conzett Bronzini Partner in Chur (Grisons) investigates existing constructions and designs new bridges and buildings, often in collaboration with architects.
